David, Eva, Zach & Mia
We are a family of four who moved to Olympia to be part of a cohousing community and because we wanted to get out of the big city (Seattle).
How’d we get here? We found ourselves becoming very nuclear and losing touch with our community. We didn’t want that to happen and felt that moving into cohousing would give us the opportunity to engage, interact and live/work with others in a way that maintains and balances the cohesiveness of our family within a larger community. We appreciate not having to travel 30 minutes to have dinner with our friends, to spontaneous and easy gatherings and to our kids being able to walk out the door and play with friends. We also like living in a smaller town where life feels a little less hectic. We’ve been very excited (frustrated at times too) about the opportunity to live at Woodard Lane Cohousing, and look forward to being around current and new individuals and families that appreciate the benefits of living in community.
David is 45, and is an acupuncturist, nutritionist and Chinese herbalist. He is practicing two days a week in Olympia and two days in Seattle. He’s very passionate about his work and a conversation with him will ultimately end up health related. He also likes cooking (clean and well organized kitchen greatly preferred), fantasy baseball, Vipassana practice (out of the loop past few years), working out, and the process of building community and the relationships that come with that. He has unusual dexterity with his 1st and 2nd toes.
Eva is 46 and is managing the homefront. She spends her days with the kids reading to them, hanging out outside, and most recently doing Mad Libs, as well as taking them to various activities, trying to maintain a certain level of organization in a home that is constantly moving toward chaos, and getting some writing and gardening in during free time while they are in school.
Zach is 9 and is in third grade at our local public school, Garfield. He loves to play video games and do tricks on his bikes as well as hang out with his friends in the community. He has been practicing Tai Kuan Doe for over a year and recently joined the Tournament Team. We’ll see how he likes competition.
Mia will be four in less than two weeks. She goes to Dancing Rainbows Preschool. She likes to ride her bike and play with her friends as well as look at books and be read to and paint and play with her stuffed puppy dogs.
We all look forward to living and growing up in a wonderfully supportive environment.
